The news in environmental genomics within the CEBA

Here are the news of the past few weeks about environmental genomics, a field of research strongly supported by the CEBA, particularly within the AMAZOMICS program :
– The CEBA held its first thematic school in Kourou, from October 10 to 12 2013, with the central theme : “Advanced methods in Neotropical Biogeography: focus on the Guiana Shield“. Thirteen participants and as many trainers came from several countries to attend the seminar: Sweden, Spain, France, Switzerland, United States, Colombia, Brazil.

– In Rennes, from November 2013 4 to 6,  the conference on Environmental Genomics was held  on “Diversity, evolution and functioning of living organisms in the era of new sequencing technologies”.
On this occasion, Lucie Zinger, postdoc in the EDB laboratory and member of CEBA, presented a project on tropical biodiversity mapping via DNA metabarcoding, with a focus on Plants and Fungi. She presented analyzes of soil sampling done at the Nouragues research station, which is one of the main equipment of the CEBA.

Alain Franc, researcher in the Biogeco laboratory and member of CEBA, also participated with a presentation on “High-power computing in support of barcoding in metagenomics“.

– It should also be noted that the “Prospective on Environmental Genomics” was published in November 2013 by the Institute of Ecology and Environment (INEE) of the CNRS.
Among the authors are Alain Franc, CEBA researcher cited above, as well as two researchers, Pierre Taberlet (LECA) and Frédéric Delsuc (Institute of evolution sciences of Montpellier), who provided a training session during the first thematic school of the CEBA.
