Launch of the COPAS – September 20, 2014

The inauguration of the Canopy Operating Permanent Acces System COPAS, located in the Nouragues ecological research station, a scientific station managed by Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), will take place Saturday, September 20, 2014 in Regina, French Guiana.

CNRS has carried out last june the technical validation of the Canopy Operating Permanent Acces System, built in tne Nouragues Natural Reserve in French Guiana. This research equipment, completed with the help of FEDER European funds, is now operational. It will come into operation in 2015.
The COPAS, unique prototype in the world providing access to the 3-dimensional canopy over an area of 1.5 hectares, represents an extraordinary opportunity for the international scientific community to study the biodiversity and ecology in the high forest layers. It joins the existing range of scientific facilities proposed in French Guiana by the CNRS for the study of tropical rainforest, on the Nouragues scientific station.
The official inauguration of the COPAS, scheduled to Saturday, September 20, 2014, will be held on Nouragues scientific station and the village of Regina. The program of this day is currently being drawn up.
